It looks to me like the people who like RPG's and 1st person shooters have gotten more involved. Notice that the guy who created Doom is not beating Will Wright for lifetime acheivement, too.
I suspect you you might be right. I never liked the games my son likes--so much violence and gore. He gave me one of his to play and for a while it was rather interesting. That was Baldurs Gate. I liked some of the characters, exploring strange landscapes, meeting fanciful creatures, but I got tired of the fighting required. In any event, he has no interest in games like the Sims and would not vote for it, if asked to vote. And I think Mirelly is right, too. People who play the Sims games are not quite the same type of people who play the RPGs and shooter games. Are the Sims fansites where we find clothes and furniture downloads pushing the contest on Walk of Game? Does the membership of Sims fansites add up to the millions who play the game? The Sims2 official site is crowded but not THAT crowded. Huge numbers of Sims players don't seem to bother with going online except to get a patch or an occasional problem or bug resolved.
What really surprises me is how far down Half-Life is on the list. This game is considered the number 1 game of all time by many gaming sites. I switched from Resident Evil to Half-Life a couple days ago for my last vote. Half-Life changed what everyone thought FPS and Roleplaying games could do... like, for example, be the same thing. It took rushing monsters and showed us what an AI squad could do. It opened the door for unbelievably complex and rewarding story-based games, like Systems Shock 2. And its in like 12th place. I haven't seen word one about it on any of the Half-Life fan and news sites I frequent. I think this Walk of Game is not going to be a measure of a game's merit, but of the ability of fan sites and media sources to generate buzz.

The good news is this: last year all of the top 4 games got squares. If the same is true this year then the Sims have a shot.

Starcraft is the single largest played RTS Worldwide. It has a MASSIVE following in Asia. And with all the South Korean votes I have no doubt it's gonna rock the vote. Unfortunately. :(

The gap netween Tomb Raider and The Sims is narrowing, today being only .7%. Vote! Make sure 1 is for the Sims and none for Tomb Raider, so the gap can be shrunk.
