A thought on Starcraft II single player campaign

Seeing how everyone waited for a long time for Starcraft 2 to come out they would hope that the single player would continue to have a long and epic journey for players. Even though in the beginning I was a little worried that the only playable campaign will be Jim Raynor one of the Terrans, but fear not Starcraft 2 offers bunch of exciting cut scenes and additional distractions to make single player really unique. Every mission Jim Raynor finishes it will return the player to the lobby which they can interact with the objects such as people and things. Each of those objects will show a cut scene involving conversations that is part of the story. The lobby also allows players to hire mencenaries, upgrade their troops out of the game, research Zerg and Protoss technology to experience new game play that won’t exsist in the multi-player, and allow the player to have a limited choice to choose their destiny.

Blizzard really did a good job this time in distracting players with wonderful contents by making players feel that they are leveling up their army and gaining something permenant after succeeding in every mission. Unforunately no one can forsee that Starcraft 2’s story would become very short and straight forward. Stripping all the extra features from Starcraft 2 and all players will get is a really short game, the game can be finished in a couple of hours of non-stop gaming. The feature of customizing and gaining credits for missions that players finish is completely pointless if the game comes up short.

Hopefully the next expansion to the single player story would be an update rather then making people pay for a few hours of gameplay and cutscenes. The reason I say the single player was too straight forward is because after players finish the Protoss campaign the story of the past, present, and future is already given out. It would be a miracle if the expansion will come out with a twist that no one can predict. This is Onishukun reporting on the single player campaign, see you guys in the multi-player!
