Food Truck Phenomenon Hits LA Auto Show With the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter ‘Sprinklesmobile’

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 16, 2010 /PRNewswire/ — Press days at the LA Auto Show create quite an appetite for journalists covering new car unveils, so Mercedes-Benz teams up with Sprinkles Cupcakes to feed the masses while showing off a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van that’s been outfitted to accommodate a successful mobile food business.

The Mercedes-Benz “Sprinklesmobile” is owned and operated by popular Beverly Hills-based Sprinkles Cupcakes bakery, and its appearance at the Mercedes-Benz exhibit on November 17-18 marks the first time in LA Auto Show history, that a food truck is making an appearance on the show floor, where many manufacturers plan to debut cars to international media for the very first time.

Over the course of the two-days, the Sprinklesmobile plans to feed sweet tooth cravings by offering the popular cupcakes in flavors like red velvet, dark chocolate, chocolate marshmallow, vanilla and strawberry from the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van.

The food truck phenomenon is sweeping across the U.S. and truly has a foot hold in Los Angeles, California, where approximately 9,500 mobile food trucks are out and about daily on city streets.  With leading-class cargo space and features for many commercial vehicle applications, Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Vans stretch across a spectrum of vertical businesses beyond food.

“The Sprinklesmobile is great example of the versatility of Mercedes-Benz Sprinter vans,” said Claus Tritt, General Manager Commercial Vans Mercedes-Benz USA.  “Many businesses differentiate themselves with a delivery vehicle that carries the three-pointed star.  It shows they care about the quality of their product or service and want the best equipment for their business.”

Designed by Sprinkles’ architect, Andrea Lenardin and customized by West Coast Customs, the Sprinklesmobile is equipped to deliver freshly baked cupcakes directly to the consumer.  Outfitted with an 2800 watt electric generator and rear air-conditioning unit, this fuel-efficient clean diesel van has the ability to deliver up to 1,500 cupcakes to loyal customers while getting 22 mpg.  Additional modifications include: pivoting, height-adjustable serving counter, power-retractable awning and a trademark Sprinkles “modern dot” logo wheel covers.
